HairRaising For A Great Cause

British hairdressers are known as the best in the world, so when they join forces to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital they deserve your support. Hello! Magazine co hosted the launch of this great charity back in August and Britain’s best  A List hairdressers and their clients including Gwyneth Paltrow and Geri Halliwell turned out in force to help kick off the £1million fundraiser  that aims to help build a new operating theatre at Great Ormond Street.

‘I have known Nicola Clarke since she coloured my hair when we worked together on Shakespeare In Love, over ten years ago now, so when she called me up and asked me to support this charity I said that of course I would come along,’ Gwyneth told me. ‘Great Ormond Street Hospital is the kind of place that if you are a mother raising your family in London you are glad that it is there. It is such a brilliant hospital and they do such great work.’

Geri Halliwell arrived on the arm of her handsome boyfriend Henry Beckwith whose sister Nicola is a key fundraiser for Great Ormond Street, where her son Oscar is being treated. ‘I had to come as Oscar Nicola’s son is my daughter Bluebell’s boyfriend,’ Geri joked. ‘I really admire Nicola who is an amazing mother and an incredible fundraiser for Great Ormond Street. And I really respect John Frieda and what he has achieved, getting all of these amazing hairdressers on board, I love that and want to support them, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the amazing people that work there.’

John Frieda is the driving force behind HairRaising, which aims to raise over a million pounds to help build a new operating theatre at Great Ormond Street. ‘We have quite an Everest to climb,’ John told me.  ‘People are  running marathons, jumping out of planes; somebody walked in to salon last week and just put a cheque for £1,000 into the charity box, but really all we are asking for is for every person to add just one pound to their hairdressing bill.’

And the best of British hairdressing are also supporting the charity including colourist to the stars (and little old me) Josh Wood, the fabulous Nicky Clarke and Andrew Barton, who recently did some make-overs on some of the mothers of the children being treated and on some of the nurses at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Errol Douglas, Nicola Clarke, Daniel and Louise Galvin, Vidal Sassoon, Trevor Sorbie and Charles Worthington.

All you need to do is visit one of the registered salons and add a small donation to your bill, or get your local salon to join up – it really is a worthwhile cause -  visit www.gosh.org/hairraising
